association of ccl2 c-2518t gene polymorphism with age-related macular degeneration (amd) disease in northeast of iran
Authors
abstract
purpose: to investigate the effect of ccl2c-2512t polymorphism on age-related macular degeneration (amd). methods: this study enrolled 48 patients originating from northeast of iran who suffered from dry type amd. the association of c-2518t in the promoter region of ccl2 gene was investigated using polymerase chain reaction (pcr) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (rflp). control group consisted of 69 healthy people and were matched for age, sex and ethnicity. results: statistical analysis showed a significant association of tt genotype in this polymorphism with susceptibility to amd (p=0.008). this genotype was more frequent in patients compared to the controls (60.41% vs 43.48%). conclusion: tt genotype of c-2518t gene polymorphism is associated with dry age-related macular degeneration in patients from northeast of iran.

Introduction & Objective: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a disease affecting the central regions of the retina and choroid, which can lead to loss of central vision. Etiological research suggests that AMD is a complex disease, caused by the actions and interactions of multiple genes and environmental factors. Numerous studies have focused on the role of chemotactic cytokines, also kn...

Background. Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in elderly individuals where aetiology and pathophysiology of age-related macular degeneration are not absolutely clear. Purpose. To determine the frequency of the genotype of rs2108622 in patients with early and exudative age-related macular degeneration. Methods. The study enrolled 190 patients with early age-relat...

Background: We aimed here to investigate the association between alleles and genotypes of APOE and Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) development. Materials and Methods: After ophthalmological examination, 120 patients with confirmed AMD and 120 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. The polymorphic segment of APOE gene was PCR-amplified and sequenced to determine the frequency distr...
